as a mini gourmet grocer. It serves locals during the week and tourists on weekends. Think sourdough in the morning, seafood pasta by sunset.
Concept: Saltwater Pantry is an airy cafe that doubles
IDENTITY & STRATEGY
Saltwater Pantry
Saltwater Pantry was developed as a coastal café and provisions concept designed to feel both community-rooted and quietly elevated. The strategy positioned the brand as more than a place to eat, but as a gathering space that blends hospitality with curated retail. By combining an all-day café offering with a small selection of thoughtfully sourced pantry goods, the brand bridges everyday convenience with artisanal charm.
The identity balances warmth and refinement. A soft coastal palette of seafoam, navy, and olive reflects the natural environment while maintaining sophistication. Typography pairs a friendly serif with subtle handwritten accents to evoke familiarity without sacrificing structure. The circular badge-style logo draws inspiration from traditional grocer marks, reinterpreted with a coastal sensibility to feel timeless rather than nostalgic.
Every touchpoint was designed to reinforce the feeling of ease and quality, from menu layouts and pantry labels to loyalty cards and in-store signage. The overall concept centres on community, seasonality, and considered simplicity, creating a brand that feels authentic to a small beach town while remaining visually polished.
Overview
This project allowed me to explore a full brand ecosystem, extending beyond logo and visual identity into practical applications such as menus, loyalty cards, packaging, and café collateral. It was an opportunity to design with both atmosphere and function in mind, ensuring that every branded element contributed to a cohesive and inviting customer experience.
Process & Insights
Strategic Foundation
The strategic foundation focused on defining Saltwater Pantry as a hybrid space: part café, part curated provisions store. The target audience included local families, remote workers, and visitors seeking an authentic yet refined coastal experience. From this positioning, key pillars were established: community connection, seasonal quality, and elevated simplicity. These principles informed visual decisions, tone of voice, and the structure of branded materials, ensuring the identity felt welcoming while maintaining clarity and consistency.
Results & Scalability
The end result is a versatile brand system that translates seamlessly across physical and digital environments. The identity supports expansion into product packaging, event catering, branded merchandise, and potential second locations without losing cohesion. Through this project, I refined my ability to design beyond aesthetics, considering usability, hierarchy, and real-world application while maintaining a strong strategic core.
